Are you getting dull results from AI? You are not alone.

Cloud7's ABC Prompting Framework
Cloud7's ABC Prompting Framework

If every response you get from ChatGPT/Claude/ Gemini/ Copilot (other AI tools are available) sounds like it was written by a magnolia-coloured robot, the problem probably isn’t the tool. It’s the prompt.

(And no, - you’re not doing it “wrong”. You’re just not giving it enough to work with.)

We covered this in my recent AI Quick Wins webinar, and it was one of the most common lightbulb moments:

👉 AI is only as good as the instructions you give it.

Its smart. But it needs direction. A lot of it.

So if you’ve tried AI and felt underwhelmed, here’s why:

You’re asking too little or assuming too much.

Think of it this way: Your AI tool is a super-smart but slightly clueless intern.

It can process information at lightning speed.

But it has zero context. You need to tell it everything.

Not just:

“Write a blog about digital marketing”

But:

“Act as a senior marketing consultant writing for small business owners who want practical tips. Make the tone clear and friendly. Use UK English. No jargon. No waffle. The aim is to help readers feel more confident about getting started with digital marketing.”

That level of detail is the difference between bland and brilliant.

Enter: The ABC Framework

To help make prompting easier, I shared the ABC Framework in the session.

Here’s the first step:

A is for Actors: Who’s involved?

Think about who would be best placed to help you with this task. Not just “AI” but an expert in their field.

For example:

“You are a careers adviser helping a nervous teenager write their first CV”. “You’re a nutritionist writing a beginner-friendly meal plan for busy working parents”

Be specific about who the AI should act as and it will start responding in a way that matches the right tone, depth and perspective.

The key takeaway? Don’t just throw tasks at AI and expect magic.

Spell it out.

Use short, clear sentences.

Avoid jargon and abbreviations.

Give it context.

And then iterate until it sounds like you or at least like someone your reader would trust.

AI isn’t here to take over your job. But it can definitely help you do it better.

More time back. Fewer beige outputs. And a lot less faffing around.

If you want help getting there, keep an eye on my next session

I promise: no waffle.

Just smart, human-first ways to make AI work for you, not against you.
